Clayton Englar (sax & flute):
Dad Clayton has been living in Olney for over 11 years. After performing in and
around the San Francisco area during the late 70's, where he also studied with
legendary saxophonist Joe Henderson, he moved to
Silver spring in 1980. He has played actively in the greater DC/MD area as well
as New York, Philadelphia, and Atlanta since the early 80's, with an eclectic
mix of jazz, blues, big band, Latin, African and pop music groups, including
several years with the D.C. Jazz Workshop Orchestra
and a three year stint as lead sax with Doc Scantlin's
Imperial Palms Orchestra.
Clayton also has several groups of his own: the popular
Windmill
Saxophone Quartet, the jazz/world/fusion sextet
Equinox, and the classical flute
and guitar duo
Con Moto. He has produced 3
albums with Windmill and 1 with Equinox - including 2 here on Global View Music,
and available
HERE. Over the past 2 years,
Clayton has also been performing at various clubs, festivals and other events in
the DC-Baltimore area with the Afrobeat band Elikeh.
Greg Englar (guitar):
Son Greg is a jazz guitarist currently attending New York University as a Jazz
Performance Major. He began playing guitar at age 9, and by high school had
developed a love for jazz music. In addition to playing with the Eubie Blake
High School Jazz Ensemble, he also began to perform in the MD and DC area
regularly with the James Bazen Big Band, alongside
his father. During his junior year of high school Greg began studying privately
with DC jazz guitar legend Paul Wingo.
Locally, Greg has also performed with his father's group
Equinox,
as well as the Capital Focus Jazz Band;
in NYC with the NYU Jazz Repertoire Big Band, The New York Youth Symphony Jazz
Band Classic; and last spring in Italy with the New York-Italia Connection. More
recently, he has studied with John Scofield, Randy Johnston, Peter Bernstein,
and Bruce Arnold.
